1-4-3 Has a special place in the hearts of folks my age (46). We either grew up with a pager or Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, or both. We knew then that 1-4-3 meant “I Love You,” and that’s the message I hope you get from this little newsletter.

Here is 1 bit of laughter, 4 learning moments, and 3 challenges for the weeks ahead.

Let me be the first to recommend blindfolded archery. If you haven’t tried it, you don’t know what you’re missing!!

2 - One of the realities of leadership is that we must often take less than our share of the credit and more than our share of the blame.

3 - Humble leaders are often the most vulnerable and authentic leaders. Sharing your weaknesses and failures draws others in. The world is starving for ‘real.’

1 - Greet everyone you see by name. The loudest word in every language is the person’s name. You’ll hear it in a crowded, loud room and still stop to find the source. Knowing others' names and using them is a powerful leadership behavior.

2 - Do something kind, anonymously. A great test of humility is to serve someone without needing credit for it. Write a note, send a text, do a task for someone without needing repayment.

3 - Ask someone you trust for feedback on your leadership. It can be terrifying to ask someone what you need to do better, but it can also be eye-opening. I asked 3-4 friends and colleagues this and have pages of notes! It also gives them a chance to affirm you, and who doesn’t love that!
